Lisha Barré MD, LLC
Dr. Lisha Barré graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1999. Following a one year internship at Tulane/Charity Hospital in New Orleans, she spent 3 years in Manhattan completing her residency at Cornell and Columbia's combined Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation program. During her last year of residency, she also completed coursework in Medical Acupuncture via the Helms Institute at UCLA. During her residency at Cornell, she adopted a more holistic approach to pain management that is simultaneously unique from and safer than many traditional western medical approaches.
Dr. Barré has been treating musculoskeletal pain conditions for over 10 years, and during that time she has learned to trust more and more in the power of therapies (see Services tab above) that restore good movement and lifestyle patterns. At the same time, she has become increasingly wary of conventional treatments based on pills, surgeries, invasive procedures, and excess (potentially harmful) testing, such as MRIs and X-rays. She worries about the crisis of overdose and addiction stemming from the over-prescription of opiate drugs, such as Oxycontin and Vicodin. These are drugs that are not shown to improve function, and over time increase risk of overdose. Long-term use is also associated with constipation and adverse gastrointestinal effects, hormone derangements (most notably reduced testosterone in men), and adverse mood and cognitive effects, such as depression or "brain fog." Dr. Barré has had a private practice for pain and opiate addiction treatment since 2006. She is Board Certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, as well as Addiction Medicine, and has a truly compassionate approach to pain and illness.
